Replace Arches of Missing Teeth with Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are a more stable and natural-looking alternative to dentures. Dr. Shannen Manlucu uses advanced 3D imaging technology to place dental implants, limiting patient discomfort and reducing chances of surgical errors. Dr. Manlucu can provide safe, long-lasting results to patients in the Rockville, MD, area.

The Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures offer a wide array of advantages over traditional dentures, including:

  • Function that closely mimics that of natural teeth
  • Customized fit that supports comfort
  • A durable restoration that can potentially last for a lifetime
  • Stability during meals and conversation
  • An easy at-home hygiene routine that is just like that for real teeth
  • Cessation of the jawbone deterioration that accompanies long-term tooth loss
  • Maintenance of your facial appearance, which can change with tooth root loss

However, patients should keep dental implant candidacy in mind and the fact that implants are not suitable for every case. If you lack sufficient bone tissue to support implants and bone grafting is not a viable option, Dr. Manlucu may recommend alternative treatments.

Implant-supported dentures are attached to dental implants to provide a stabler, longer-lasting replacement for a missing arch of teeth.

Implant Dentures vs. Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures are held in place with natural suction and adhesives. While an affordable option for replacing an arch of missing teeth, this method of denture retention is not always reliable, making the restorations prone to movement. Denture slippage can be embarrassing when speaking or eating and can contribute to dental problems like worn teeth or TMJ disorder.

Fortunately for patients with missing teeth, there is a more stable method to retain your dentures. Dental implants that are surgically embedded into the jaw and backed with the strength of your jawbone can support a full row of dentures. Patients need not worry about denture movement, a poor fit, or changes to their bite and speech patterns.

The Placement Procedure

Receiving your implant-retained dentures is a multi-step process that starts with a consultation. During this meeting, Dr. Manlucu will examine your smile and jaw to determine if implant-supported dentures are the most suitable treatment for your needs. If so, she will begin creating your surgical plan by taking high-resolution images of your oral structure using advanced cone beam technology.

Dr. Manlucu offers both traditional dental implants and hybrid All-on-4® implants.

Dr. Manlucu often collaborates with a trusted oral surgeon to place implants. On the day of surgery, your surgeon will create small holes in the dental arch based on Dr. Manlucu's precise surgical plan. They can then thread titanium posts through these holes, close the incisions with stitches, and place a temporary prosthetic over the implants. Dr. Manlucu offers both traditional dental implants and hybrid All-on-4® implants that can retain a full denture with only four implants.

Over the next four to six months, the implant posts will fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration. When this process is complete, you can return for a second minor surgery during which the surgeon will attach abutments to connect the implants to your dentures. A couple of weeks later, after you have healed completely, you can return to our office to have your permanent dentures placed.
